In order to advance or to delay table grape ripening, plastic films covering with different radiometric properties are often used in Apulia region (Southern Italy). Covering plastic films protect clusters and canopy from adverse weather conditions, such as rain, hail and wind, and reduce damage of the berries from diseases, especially in organic viticulture. This research was carried out in the year 2022 in the Apulia region in an organic table grape vineyard on ‘Varo 203’ variety (Autumn Pearl brand), grafted onto 140 Ruggeri (Vitis berlandieri × Vitis rupestris) rootstock, with a spacing of 3.0×2.0 m apart (1.666 vines ha-1), 2 years old located in “Castellaneta” (Taranto province). Two polyethylene films for vineyard protection were tested in the research and named “yellow” and “neutral” according to their color. The plastic films were characterized by PAR total transmissivity coefficient equal to 74.8% for the yellow film and 66.4% for the neutral film. Concerning the solar IR transmissivity coefficient, the yellow film was characterized by a coefficient equal to 41.6% and the neutral film by a coefficient equal to 23.1%. No effect of plastic film on cluster and berry weight was noted. The effect of plastic film on berry diameters was debatable while berry skin color was influenced by the type of the plastic cover, with redness and yellowness increased by the yellow film covering. Berry skin springiness, chewiness and gumminess are higher on grape grown under yellow plastic film.

Abstract
Berry skin springiness, chewiness and gumminess are higher on grape grown under yellow plastic film.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
