The “Hype cycle” model challenge Abstract The purpose of the research is to analyse and investigate the problems associated with the life cycle of a technology using the Gartner “hype cycle” model. Gartner inc, is a leading research and advisory company, especially in IT businesses, with over than 60,000 clients all over the world. The improvement of analyzing and understanding the life cycle of a technology, allows the company to redeploy its resources in order to focus investments on the technologies with higher profitability, achieving competitive advantages towards the competitors. The model is able to check the technology throughout the parameters of the expectation of consumers in the different areas of activity. Thanks to its model, the Gartner inc., every year, drafts a classification of the “top technologies” that drives firms to abandon or adopt specific technologies on the basis of their position inside the life cycle. The aim of the research is to analyse some firms that have changed their strategies, on the basis of the information emerged from the model, and to verify the results that have been achieved.
