In recent years, the fishing sector has achieved a world production of over 90 million tons per year, registering a certain stability even though there have been some marked changes in catch trends related to countries, fishing areas and species (FAO, 2014). If you look at Italy and so in our specific case to Apulia, the well-known and widespread economic crisis has not spared the fishing sector, which already suffered major structural problems. The economic stagnation, as an inevitable consequence of the restriction of consumption, did not lead to a higher price of fish products as to be able to equalize the increase in intermediate costs (Sabatella, 2000, Gephart et al, 2017). In fact, although there were high domestic production fluctuations in recent years, prices have followed independent trends which were disconnected from the supply trends. Thus, a descriptive analysis, carried out in Apulia in terms of productive efficiency, physical, economic and environmental sustainability, and finally of consumption, will allow supporting with conviction how the risk of economic inefficiency of the Apulian fish sector as a whole is far from negligible and this, of course, makes emerging the urgency of a sudden reversal of “trend” of the current assets through effective interventions and territorial management strategies.

Abstract
Thus, a descriptive analysis, carried out in Apulia in terms of productive efficiency, physical, economic and environmental sustainability, and finally of consumption, will allow supporting with conviction how the risk of economic inefficiency of the Apulian fish sector as a whole is far from negligible and this, of course, makes emerging the urgency of a sudden reversal of “trend” of the current assets through effective interventions and territorial management strategies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
