Nowadays the data about PM chemical composition reported in literature are characterized by the typically time resolution of 24 h. However, most particulate emission sources and the atmospheric processes of transport, dilution and formation of pollutants change within a few hours, thus daily samples are not capable of tracking these rapid changes. These considerations are even more important when considering highly polluted industrial areas, such as Taranto, one of the most industrialized towns in the South of Italy.

Abstract

Nowadays the data about PM chemical composition reported in literature are characterized by the typically time resolution of 24 h. However, most particulate emission sources and the atmospheric processes of transport, dilution and formation of pollutants change within a few hours, thus daily samples are not capable of tracking these rapid changes.
