The Silicon TRD (SiTRD) is a transition radiation detector composed by silicon strip detectors (SSDs) used in conjunction with a magnetic field. A reduced scale SiTRD prototype has been exposed to an electron-pion beam with momenta ranging from 3 to 5 GeV/c. The electron identification efficiency, pion contamination and pion rejection power have been studied for different values of the beam momentum and of the magnetic field. A full simulation code has been also developed, that describes the TR production and the processes of charge deposition and generation of electric signals inside SSDs. The simulation well reproduces the experimental data and will allow to better understand the detector behaviour.

Abstract
The Silicon TRD (SiTRD) is a transition radiation detector composed by silicon strip detectors (SSDs) used in conjunction with a magnetic field. A reduced scale SiTRD prototype has been exposed to an electron-pion beam with momenta ranging from 3 to 5 GeV/c. The electron identification efficiency, pion contamination and pion rejection power have been studied for different values of the beam momentum and of the magnetic field. A full simulation code has been also developed, that describes the TR production and the processes of charge deposition and generation of electric signals inside SSDs. The simulation well reproduces the experimental data and will allow to better understand the detector behaviour.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
