The article highlights the influence of the models and procedures of photography on literature, in the early times of the new art in Europe and the States. It deals in particular with the influence of the occultist and spiritualist approach to daguerreotypy in Balzac’s novel Le cousin Pons, and with the impact of Lewis Carroll’s photographic ethos on Sylvie and Bruno.
