Abstract
This paper examines the function of rhyme in Dante’s poetry, challenging the traditional opposition between formal constraint and poetic expressiveness. Rhyme is conceived as a structural core of high semantic density, guiding both lexical choice as well as the architecture of the text. The productive and generative functions of the rhyming system are brought to light via examples drawn from the Rime and the Commedia. Particular attention is given to lexical coinage and resemantisation.File in questo prodotto:
