"La bellezza della materia". Arte per l'industria nella "Canzone del polistirene"

In una prospettiva spiccatamente interdisciplinare, il contributo è dedicato a una significativa iniziativa editoriale realizzata a metà degli anni Ottanta da Vanni Scheiwiller per conto della Montedison. Si allude alla raffinatissima plaquette, intitolata "La canzone del polistirene", in cui vengono accorpati il poemetto "Le chant du Styrène" scritto poco meno di trent’anni prima da Raymond Queneau (a commento delle immagini dell’omonimo cortometraggio di Alain Resnais), la traduzione in italiano dei versi realizzata da Italo Calvino e un’acquaforte di Fausto Melotti. La plaquette conferma la natura prismatica dell’agire letterario calviniano tra cultura umanistica e cultura scientifica, nonché la costante attenzione dello scrittore ligure a quegli aspetti della società e del progresso che hanno una evidente ricaduta sulla quotidianità e sul benessere/malessere dell’uomo non solo novecentesco. ----- From a distinctly interdisciplinary perspective, this essay is dedicated to a significant publishing initiative undertaken in the mid-1980s by Vanni Scheiwiller on behalf of Montedison. The reference is to the highly refined plaquette entitled "La canzone del polistirene", which brings together the short poem "Le chant du Styrène" written just under thirty years earlier by Raymond Queneau (as a commentary on the images of Alain Resnais' short film of the same name), Italo Calvino's Italian translation of the verses, and an etching by Fausto Melotti. The plaquette confirms the prismatic nature of Calvino's literary work, straddling humanistic and scientific culture, as well as the Ligurian writer's constant attention to those aspects of society and progress that have a clear impact on everyday life and human well-being/ill-being, not only in the 20th century.
