Abstract

The Author considers the essential contribution that Meluta Miroslv Marin, during her research in Faculty of Humanities of Jaşi, has given to understand anthropomorphic “idolica” cucuteian plastic art in different periods in Dacia and to examine the possibility of correlation between two geographically distant areas: Romania’s territory with cucutenian cultures and South-eastern Italy. In both areas is evident a number analogies related to the female figure of the Great Mother that, in the mature phase of the agricultural Neolithic cultures of South-eastern Italy, has female realistic features. During the decrease of South-eastern Italy’s agricultural communities, after the climatic crisis of the V-IV millennium, female idols change into image with androgynous features and at last, in the following phase dominated by rearing, they become real idols with zoomorphic features (IV millennium).
