In order to allocate significant public funds to sustainable infrastructure projects and to inform the pertinent decision-making processes, this paper offers insights into the distributive justice debate and who gains from transportation investments. Because transport infrastructures have the power to significantly alter how urban space is organized, it is critical to assess whether local governments use these resources to address or perpetuate current patterns of urban inequality, particularly when it comes to taking the needs of the elderly into account. This paper's contribution is to synthesize and critically assess the existing literature on the social and environmental effects of transportation, equity in transportation, transportation disadvantage for various social groups, and the broader relationships between social exclusion and the transportation needs of the elderly. It highlights areas for additional research, highlights knowledge gaps, and summarizes what is currently known about these problems. According to the findings of preliminary research, it is crucial to take into consideration the mobility requirements of the elderly when reforming the mobility supply. This highlights the significance of population clustering to provide feasible and sustainable transportation infrastructure and services.
