The notion of sustainability is derived from its main purposes: promoting global growth, fostering human well– being, ending poverty, combating inequalities, achieving social and economic progress, and addressing climate change while protecting the environment. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can play a crucial role in achieving these goals. However, AI itself is “sustainable” only if it serves humanity. It needs to be regulated through specific regulations at a supranational level. Nevertheless, regulatory gaps will always exist. Therefore, the role of the interpreter remains central. The jurist can and should use interpretative tools, including creative ones, drawing also from those developed, along with the still relevant principles, within the framework of Roman legal culture.
