A coordinated study on the trophic ecology of M. merluccius (Linnaeus, 1758) was carried out in 2018 in all the Italian seas, by means of stomach content analysis. The preliminary results confirm a diet mainly based on Bony Fishes, followed by Euphausiids and Decapod Crustaceans. Ontogenetic changes in the trophic spectrum were also evidenced.

Abstract

A coordinated study on the trophic ecology of M. merluccius (Linnaeus, 1758) was carried out in 2018 in all the Italian seas, by means of stomach content analysis. The preliminary results confirm a diet mainly based on Bony Fishes, followed by Euphausiids and Decapod Crustaceans. Ontogenetic changes in the trophic spectrum were also evidenced.
