This study reports the occurrence of a lush forest of the black coral Antipathella subpinnata at Tremiti Islands Marine Protected Area. A total of 753 colonies were observed in four different sites, with unexpected high-density values. The identification of black coral forests and the quantification of fishing impacts affecting them represent a solid base to plan proper protection strategies in the area.
