Coffee is an important crop grown in about 80 countries around the world and its demand is always high, so that the improvement of alternative technologies for its propagation has been evaluated. Somatic embryogenesis is one of in vitro techniques studied on different coffee species since the 1990s. However, the induction of somatic embryos and their subsequent development depend on the species, and genotype, as well as the explant source and the culture conditions. This study is focused on the induction of direct somatic embryogenesis of Coffea arabica L. Nakombu starting from leaves of coffee plants in different phenological stage.

Abstract

Coffee is an important crop grown in about 80 countries around the world and its demand is always high, so that the improvement of alternative technologies for its propagation has been evaluated. Somatic embryogenesis is one of in vitro techniques studied on different coffee species since the 1990s. However, the induction of somatic embryos and their subsequent development depend on the species, and genotype, as well as the explant source and the culture conditions. This study is focused on the induction of direct somatic embryogenesis of Coffea arabica L. Nakombu starting from leaves of coffee plants in different phenological stage.
