Ophiothrix quinquemaculata (Delle Chiaje, 1828) is a large ophiuroid which can form dense aggregations on muddy environment. Even though it is usually reported as a soft‐bottom species, this thorny brittle star may prefer small hard substrates (e.g. stones and big pebbles) scattered upon the sediment (Tortonese, 1965).
