This paper examines rural life during the Imperial age in the regio IX, making use of the epigraphic, literary and archaeological evidence about vici, villae, imperial and senatorial properties, thus placing emphasis on what connects them. With regard to literary sources, the Historia Augusta, namely the Life of Pertinax, provides information about the activities in a villa in Liguria, in the late 2nd century CE.
