Based on evidence from multiple disciplines, frequently collected in large retrospective studies or longitudinal ones following developmental tra-jectories across decades it has become increasingly clear that the origins of many mental health problems lie in childhood. Mental well-being in childhood is considered a prerequisite for a healthy psychological development, which allows the individual to build well-functioning social relationships, to learn and achieve adequate levels of personal autonomy, to enjoy good physical health and to be productive for the society. the present chapter reviews evidenced-based protocols to support parenting in order to increase the likelihood for the child to encounter positive and effective developmental outcomes.
