Agricultural sector uses about 80% (in the arid zones up to 90%) of the global water resources and is responsible of higher value of Water Footprint. Additionally, recently problems of water scarcity and drought are affecting in particular this sector. The general aim of this application is to provide suggestions in order to predict sustainable scenarios for the water resource used in agriculture. Particularly, through the quantitative method and the Water Footprint indicator it was carried out a quantification of the water consumption for a traditional crop in Mediterrane an area: the olive. The results highlighted that the implementation of water-saving practices can reduce the Water Footprint of crops production and, thus, alleviate water scarcity, towards the goals of Circular Economy.

Abstract
Agricultural sector uses about 80% (in the arid zones up to 90%) of the global water resources and is responsible of higher value of Water Footprint. Additionally, recently problems of water scarcity and drought are affecting in particular this sector. The general aim of this application is to provide suggestions in order to predict sustainable scenarios for the water resource used in agriculture. Particularly, through the quantitative method and the Water Footprint indicator it was carried out a quantification of the water consumption for a traditional crop in Mediterrane an area: the olive. The results highlighted that the implementation of water-saving practices can reduce the Water Footprint of crops production and, thus, alleviate water scarcity, towards the goals of Circular Economy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
