The systemic and complex nature of the environmental problem and sustainable development that sees political institutions, educational and training institutions, communities and individual citizens interconnected, brings out the need to invest in the transformative power of knowledge and knowledge, along throughout his life. Educational and training institutions, especially universities, have the task of promoting eco-literacy and education in environmental sustain- ability by educating to critical and responsible consumption to improve lifestyles and increase the sustainability of human activities on ecosystems. The university must coordinate, together with other stakeholders, different intervention strategies in order to address the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and the local sustainabil- ity challenges. The place-based approach, capable of linking individual and social needs to the needs of the territory, is configured as a possible approach for defining the university as a hub of sustainability on the territory.
