Recent studies showed that plasma ROS levels were significantly increased in hemodialysis (HD) patients compared with healthy controls, a condition explained by the prominent dysfunction of the mitochondrial respiratory system in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and HD patients. Chronic inflammation in CKD patients may be detected by high pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP).

Abstract

Recent studies showed that plasma ROS levels were significantly increased in hemodialysis (HD) patients compared with healthy controls, a condition explained by the prominent dysfunction of the mitochondrial respiratory system in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and HD patients. Chronic inflammation in CKD patients may be detected by high pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP).
