The present article identifies the Florentine castrato Giovanni Manzuoli in a portrait done by Giuseppe Pascaletti and held in the library of the Naples Conservatory, one that until now was thought to represent Gaetano Majorano. The new attribution of the painting has been made possible thanks to an etching in a collection of Rime in honor of MAnzuoli written by the Calabrian lawyer and nobleman Francesco Galluppa. These verses and some preceding notes furnish inedited biographical information on the illustrious castrato, who enjoyed one of the longest careers in the 18th Century and interpreted the arias of generation of Neapolitan composers, evening singing Mozart's Ascanio in Alba in Milan.

Abstract
The present article identifies the Florentine castrato Giovanni Manzuoli in a portrait done by Giuseppe Pascaletti and held in the library of the Naples Conservatory, one that until now was thought to represent Gaetano Majorano. The new attribution of the painting has been made possible thanks to an etching in a collection of Rime in honor of MAnzuoli written by the Calabrian lawyer and nobleman Francesco Galluppa. These verses and some preceding notes furnish inedited biographical information on the illustrious castrato, who enjoyed one of the longest careers in the 18th Century and interpreted the arias of generation of Neapolitan composers, evening singing Mozart's Ascanio in Alba in Milan.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
