The use of technology to make a city smart provides opportunities and threats. Cities can be analyzed from different perspectives and dimensions. This paper addresses the level of security of Smart Cities derived by the observation of their technological level, according to a model that also considers several application domains. As a case study, the paper reports the analysis performed in Italy. The results can be extended on other countries. The goal is to provide decision makers a support for the understanding of the security level of a city and a reference for a comparison among different cities. Another goal is to highlight potential security leaks, in order to mitigate the possible vulnerabilities and improve the security of the smart cities.

Abstract
The use of technology to make a city smart provides opportunities and threats. Cities can be analyzed from different perspectives and dimensions. This paper addresses the level of security of Smart Cities derived by the observation of their technological level, according to a model that also considers several application domains. As a case study, the paper reports the analysis performed in Italy. The results can be extended on other countries. The goal is to provide decision makers a support for the understanding of the security level of a city and a reference for a comparison among different cities. Another goal is to highlight potential security leaks, in order to mitigate the possible vulnerabilities and improve the security of the smart cities.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
