Abstract

The global increase in chemical production stressed the need for knowledge of the risks associated with human health and the environment. For these reasons, the use of LCA analyses, in order to identify and correct potential issues, has become a very useful tool in the perspective of sustainable development of the chemical industry. This case study has examined the environmental performance of paints and varnishes manufactured by an Italian chemical company, through the life cycle assessment methodology, with the purpose of identifying the main impacts and the feasible measures to reduce them.
