A systematic analysis of the French word trajectoire and the Italian word traiettoria shows similar philological, semantic and phrasal paths, highlighting important signi cant distinctions alongside obvious similarities, due to their common neo-Latin origin. The most recent occurrences of these two words give evidence of a terminological diversi cation in different domains, including the demographic aspect. Focusing on the discourse of demography, we present a detailed comparison of the function of these two terms in the two languages. Using reference works, as well as the Web as a corpus, we extracted frequencies of trajectoire / traiettoria.

Abstract
A systematic analysis of the French word trajectoire and the Italian word traiettoria shows similar philological, semantic and phrasal paths, highlighting important signi cant distinctions alongside obvious similarities, due to their common neo-Latin origin. The most recent occurrences of these two words give evidence of a terminological diversi cation in different domains, including the demographic aspect. Focusing on the discourse of demography, we present a detailed comparison of the function of these two terms in the two languages. Using reference works, as well as the Web as a corpus, we extracted frequencies of trajectoire / traiettoria.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
