Unusual ultrasonographic finding of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in a preterm newborn with severe intra-uterine growth retardation

Key Points Ovarian cysts are frequent, especially in preterm infants; although it is known that stimulation of gonadotropins and placental human corionic gonadotropin play a role in the formation of cysts during fetal life, the exact pathogenesis is not fully understood. Preterm ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome can present with an unusual aspect of activated ovaries, filled with multiple large follicles, in preterm newborn with severe intra‐uterine growth restriction.
