The existence of a Critical Period for language acquisition has been at the center of a long discussion in the field of study of the age factor in relation to linguistic acquisition. Studies conducted with techniques of neuroimaging today show that the processes of neural plasticity in language acquisition happen beyond the Critical Period and that these are not only in relation to the age factor but also to the level of linguistic competence acquired.
