Previous research has indicated that generally the technique of micropropagation in vitro was not suitable for several early varieties because it determined the loss of earliness at harvest. This study reports the field behaviour of the in vitro cv "Locale di Mola" artichoke, considered by many authors to be a "catanese" artichoke, a typical early cultivar of southern Italy, during the ontogenetic cycle. 4-month-old micropropagated plantlets were transferred to the field at the beginning of autumn and morphological and productive parameters were taken into consideration at regular intervals. In the first year of the experiment, the results obtained showed that the artichoke plants were uniform both phenotypically and in their behaviour and it would seem that they maintain their earliness.
