Over the period 2010-­‐2014, 217 pregnant women suspected of primary CMV infection were ammitted in Obstetric Gynecology unit of Policlinico Hospital in Bari. On the basis of clinical and laboratory records, 71/217 patients were submitted to PD by RT-­‐PCR DNA CMV on amniotic fluid (AF) in the 21 week of pregnancy in the Microbiology and Virology Unit. According to the period of sieroconversion the patients were classified in the following groups: a-­ first trimester (n=51), b-­ second trimester (n=7), c-­ third trimester of pregnancy (n=2), d-­ periconceptional age (n=11). Furthemore, anti-­‐CMV specific hyperimmunoglobulin therapy (HIG) was administered to 17/71 (23.9%) women. At birth, clinical and virological exams were performed on all newborns. The follow up was extended to CMV infected babies until the first year of age.
