This paper presents a domain-agnostic framework for intel- ligent processing of textual streams coming from social net- works. The framework implements a pipeline of techniques for semantic representation, sentiment analysis, automatic content classication, and provides an analytics console to get some ndings from the extracted data. The eective- ness of the platform has already been proved by deploying it in two smart cities-related scenarios: in the rst it was exploited to monitor the recovering state of the social capi- tal of L'Aquila's city after the dreadful earthquake of April 20091, while in the latter a semantic analysis of the content posted on social networks was performed to build a map of the most at-risk areas of the Italian territory. In both scenarios, the outcomes resulting from the anal- ysis conrmed the insight that the adoption of methodolo- gies for intelligent and semantic analysis of textual content can provide interesting ndings useful to improve the under- standing of very complex phenomena.
