The growing interest towards material balance, as assessing tool for the sustainability of production and commodities consumption, has boosted researchers in studying concrete indicators. In this regard water footprint, a new indicator, provides information about the impact both of production and anthropic consumption on the natural water cycle. The goal of this paper is to verify how the water footprint can be used for the economic planning of a territory. In particular, analyzing the most characteristics economic sectors in the Apulia region, it will be assessed how this indicator can contribute in running in sustainable way the natural resources.
