The article analyzes the surnames of the Thousand of Garibaldi highlighting the importance and purpose of a mapping system of pre-unification Italian surnames and continuity of this system at regional and national nineteenth century to the present day, is about the importance of the territory in the constitution of surnames, highlighting the role played in its formation from the native lexicon, the phenomenology of dialects and the local place names.
