In the essay the author discusses the status quo of the Italian School analysing, in an self-critical way, some of the resposibilities of pedagogy, highlighting the decline of intellectual vigilance in the matter of schooling. One of the ways to overcome the ban of the “pedagogic voices” is to start considering school as a strong pedagogical institution, not the bureareautical idea of school as a union-based ministerial institution, but an institution firmly fixed on a pedagogic neohumanism. This proposal goes in the direction of the recovery of the culture of the new Italian citizenship, the centrality of the training of the teacher and the learning of the fundamental knowledges.
