In this chapter I will analyse the main economic issues that underlay competition between the two main coalitions at the 13 May elections. In order to do this I will: provide an overview of recent trends in the most important macroeconomic indicators; examine the main economic policy measures implemented during the thirteenth legislature; compare and contrast the economic proposals outlined in the two major coalitions’ manifestoes; and finally, make some brief concluding remarks about the causes of the centre left’s defeat and about the impact of the initial economic policy measures of the centre-right government.

Abstract
In this chapter I will analyse the main economic issues that underlay competition between the two main coalitions at the 13 May elections. In order to do this I will: provide an overview of recent trends in the most important macroeconomic indicators; examine the main economic policy measures implemented during the thirteenth legislature; compare and contrast the economic proposals outlined in the two major coalitions’ manifestoes; and finally, make some brief concluding remarks about the causes of the centre left’s defeat and about the impact of the initial economic policy measures of the centre-right government.File in questo prodotto:
