The authors report on serious damage lo cultivated orchid species caused by Zonitoides nitidus O.F. Müller (Gastropoda - Stvlommatophora - Zonitidae). The snail, referred to as noxious for the first lime, feeds on buds, roots, rhyzome and leaves. Efficacious chemical control was obtained with methiocarb in preventive treatments on the substrate as well as on the growing plants.
