The aim of the research lies in the study of court mobility as an instrument of exercising royal power within the geopolitical context of the Kingdom of Sicily during the reign of Charles I of Anjou (1265–1285), and in the design—based on the evidence emerging from historical research—of a cultural and tourist itinerary aimed at promoting slow tourism in the Apulia region. The quantitative analysis of data, gathered through the study of documentary sources produced by the Angevin chancery, chronicles, and the architectures of power, provides the foundation for the qualitative research, which develops along five methodological lines: the itinerant exercise of power as an instrument of Konsensualeherrschaft; the division of the Kingdom into “areas of influence of the Crown”; the socio-economic impacts of royal itinerancy on local communities; the performative and symbolic dimension of royal entries into cities; and the study of royal residences and their occupation as a means of exercising power. The applied research phase focuses on the design of the “Itinerario Culturale di Carlo I d'Angiò”, integrated into the Apulian section of the “Via Francigena del Sud” (an itinerary approved by the Council of Europe in 2016), with the goal of offering travellers along the route a new theme-based path grounded in historical sources, while promoting and enhancing the natural and monumental heritage of the region.

Abstract
The applied research phase focuses on the design of the “Itinerario Culturale di Carlo I d'Angiò”, integrated into the Apulian section of the “Via Francigena del Sud” (an itinerary approved by the Council of Europe in 2016), with the goal of offering travellers along the route a new theme-based path grounded in historical sources, while promoting and enhancing the natural and monumental heritage of the region.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
