In this paper I will analyze the diaries of Ada Onoshkovich-Yatsyna and Maria Ryzhkina, two students of the Petrograd House of Arts, where literature and translation classes and workshops were held for young people in the early 20s. Onoshkovich-Yatsyna and Ryzhkina were not professional writers, though they dreamed of becoming so. In particular, I will examine how the everyday life of the House of Arts was reflected by two direct witnesses of those hard times, who both belonged to a generation that reached adulthood during the Revolution and the Civil War. In addition, I will focus on the specificity of such ‘ordinary’ ego-documents, stressing the typical features of women’s diaries in them (attention to inner life, female friendship, etc.)
