In this monograph, my primary aim has been to present a comprehensive account of the history of education in Albania – an account which, in addition to consulting and scrutinising historical sources, would focus on the long and significant history of the Qiriazi family. Starting from this point, and thanks to the materials now available at the Central Directorate of the Albanian State Archives, I soon realised that even greater attention should be paid to the exceptional figure of Parashqevi Qiriazi, a patriot and long-standing pioneer of Albanian pedagogy during a prolonged period in which the country underwent radical change and in which it was able to move, from pre-modern conditions, towards a new and more complex phase of its, all things considered, very recent national history. The life stories of the Qiriazi sisters (Sevasti, 1870–1949, and Parashqevi, 1880–1970) effectively spans that significant period during which Albania definitively shook off the yoke of Ottoman rule and progressed, from the phase of its National Revival (Rilindja Kombëtare), to the fifty-year period characterised by Enver Hoxha’s real-socialist dictatorship. As one might imagine, this was a crucial period, an era of great transformations that forever shaped the identity of a nation in the process of formation.

Abstract
As one might imagine, this was a crucial period, an era of great transformations that forever shaped the identity of a nation in the process of formation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
