The article aims to reconstruct the early stages of spirit photography, showing how developments in scientific paradigms and technologies between the mid–19th and early 20th centuries, contrary to what one might think, contributed to creating a sort of “re–enchantment” of reality, which allowed spirit photography and, more generally, spiritualism, to gain strength and scientific support.
