Glycoproteins are part of the prostatic secretion that constitutes the seminal fluid and mixes with spermatozoa during ejaculation, contributing to sperm motility and fertilisation. Although the prostate and its secretory products play a crucial role in reproduction, the structure of the donkey prostate israrely studied (1) and there is currently no information regarding the glycans secreted by the donkey prostate. In this study, the glycan pattern of the donkey prostate was investigated by lectin histochemistry. The lectins are useful tools for in situ analysis of glycans because they recognise well- defined epitopes within a glycan (2).
