This book brings together a series of contributions from the various research groups involved in the large-scale PNRR CHANGES project, specifically Spoke 1, which focuses on historical landscapes, traditions and cultural identities. The essays, most of which were presented at the final conference of the CHANGES project (Rome, 14–16 January 2026) entitled “Mappe e scenari per il futuro del patrimonio culturale. Tre anni di ricerche del partenariato PNRR CHANGES” and the doctoral workshop “Dialoghi sul patrimonio culturale”, organised by the PASAP.Med Doctoral Programme (Bari, 19-24 January 2026), outline the methodological framework and main results of the three-year multidisciplinary research programme. The landscape is considered a dynamic, stratified and relational system, shaped over time by the interaction between environmental processes and human communities. Interpreted as a palimpsest and a “context of contexts”, the landscape provides the analytical framework within which the elements of tangible and intangible heritage acquire meaning through diachronic and functional relationships. The CHANGES project and, within it, Spoke 1, have adopted an explicitly interdisciplinary perspective, integrating archaeology (from prehistory to the contemporary period), environmental sciences, history, anthropology, architecture, spatial planning and digital humanities. Particular emphasis has been placed on the role of landscape knowledge in heritage management, spatial planning and participatory processes, in line with the European Landscape Convention and the Faro Convention. This has led to the creation of a body of spatial disciplines that address the historical landscape in its holistic dimension, with a view to developing participatory practices, forms of social protection and strategic tools for sustainable and culturally rooted spatial transformation.

Abstract
This has led to the creation of a body of spatial disciplines that address the historical landscape in its holistic dimension, with a view to developing participatory practices, forms of social protection and strategic tools for sustainable and culturally rooted spatial transformation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
