The study examines the link between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) (performance and profitability in 108 large-cap firms in Italy, Spain, and France. Analysis of Sustainalytics ESG Risk Scores and MSCI ESG Ratings shows that lower risks and higher ratings are linked to higher ROI. ESG acts as both a risk-reduction lever and a reputational signal, with stronger effects in regulated sectors and stricter regulatory contexts.
