Johannes Clauberg’s central role (1622-1665) in the modern history of metaphysics is indisputable. From its first publication in 1647, his Ontosophia exerted a profound influence, later powerfully reinforced by the publication, in 1660 and 1664, of the Ontosophia nova and the Metaphysica de ente. In this article, by taking into account some well-known texts, we will try to show a) that Clauberg aims to free ontology from any protological approach (although he seems to adopt the Cartesian approach); b) that he gives metaphysics a « transcendental turn »; c) that this transcendental turn stems from establishing a radical identity between being and intelligibility; d) that Clauberg’s ontosophia qualifies as an alternative to the many « ontologies of abstraction » developed between the end of the sixteenth and the beginning of the seventeenth centuries.

Abstract
Johannes Clauberg’s central role (1622-1665) in the modern history of metaphysics is indisputable. From its first publication in 1647, his Ontosophia exerted a profound influence, later powerfully reinforced by the publication, in 1660 and 1664, of the Ontosophia nova and the Metaphysica de ente. In this article, by taking into account some well-known texts, we will try to show a) that Clauberg aims to free ontology from any protological approach (although he seems to adopt the Cartesian approach); b) that he gives metaphysics a « transcendental turn »; c) that this transcendental turn stems from establishing a radical identity between being and intelligibility; d) that Clauberg’s ontosophia qualifies as an alternative to the many « ontologies of abstraction » developed between the end of the sixteenth and the beginning of the seventeenth centuries.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
