“O MISERA DOMUS HERCULEA”: UN CONTRIBUTO INEDITO ALLA FORTUNA UMANISTICA DEL MITO DI ERCOLE

The study traces the medieval transmission of the myth of Hercules, beginning with the exegesis of the Hercules furens through the interpretations of the earliest commentators on Seneca’s tragedies and those of the Ovidian commentators on the Metamorphoses. Then, it focuses on Giovanni Segarelli’s interpretation of the character in a chapter of his Additiones ad librum Iohannis Bocacii De casibus virorum illustrium, preserved only in one manuscript, cod. Matritensis 17652. The article also provides a critical edition of chapters XXVIII and XXIX of the work.

Il contributo ricostruisce la fortuna medievale del mito di Ercole a partire dall’esegesi all’Hercules furens attraverso le interpretazioni dei primi commentatori di Seneca tragico e quelle degli esegeti ovidiani delle Metamorfosi per poi soffermarsi sulla interpretazione del personaggio da parte di Giovanni Segarelli in un capitolo delle sue Additiones ad librum Iohannis Bocacii De casibus virorum illustrium tràdite da un testimone unico, il cod.
