In this chapter I will show that changes did not occur. In order to do this I will: provide a five-year overview of the most important macroeconomic variables; examine the main economic policy measures implemented during the centre-right legislature; summarise the two major coalitions' manifestos; and, finally, focus on the economic issues at the centre of the election campain anf put foreward hypoteses on Silvio Berlusconi's 'partial defeat'
