Digital and Automation Technologies in Southern Italy: Does a «4.0 Enterprise» Exist in the South? The adoption of digital technologies by Italian companies has accelerated significantly in recent years, sparking an intense debate about the techno-organizational and structural factors that drive greater technology adoption among businesses. This study, drawing on data from the permanent business census and ICT survey, examines the adoption rate of «Industry 4.0» tech- nologies among companies in Southern Italy. Moreover, the analysis highlights that the policy measures in support of the digital transition currently outlined in the PNRR risk exacerbating existing polarizations between central and peripheral areas.
