Abstract

If in the 1870s Olimpia Saccati supported the female empowerment through education in writings published in L’Aurora, a periodical founded by Adele Woena, in the preunification period the private and political role of women appeared significantly marked by national identity issues. The libertarian yearning of women patriots is disseminated in a constellation of civil writings ranging from literature to journalism to theatre. In this context, a testimony of Risorgimento women writers is proposed around the fire of the poetry of Laura Beatrice Oliva Mancini, in dialogue with Giannina Milli, Angelica Palli, Maria Giuseppa Guacci and Grazia Mancini Pierantoni.
