This study, part of the European Global-ANSWER Project, examines the Italian case of reception and integration of Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) to identify what constitutes “good practice” in social work. Using a collaborative qualitative approach based on interviews with social workers and former UASC, along with documentary and policy analysis, the research explores four key dimensions: continuity, decolonisation, circularity, and prevention. Findings show that continuity is achieved through inter-institutional networks ensuring equal access; decolonisation through rights-based and intercultural approaches; circularity through reflective integration of theory and practice; and prevention through long-term community inclusion and autonomy. Together, these dimensions offer a conceptual and operational framework to strengthen social work with young migrants, promoting co-designed, context-sensitive, and inclusive practices.
