This paper examines the role of classical authors in the intellectual formation and scholarly production of Luca de Samuele Cagnazzi, a prominent figure in southern Italian culture between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Drawing on evidence from his private library, writings, and intellectual networks, the study explores how Greek and Latin texts contributed to shaping his education, methodological approach, and interdisciplinary interests. Particular attention is paid to the ways in which Cagnazzi engaged with classical antiquity not only as a humanistic foundation but also as a resource for reflection in fields such as philosophy, science, law, and political economy.
