During the Great War, society and its members, both women and men, both children and adolescents, both old and young supported the cause of the Fatherland. Women placed themselves at the service of society, men went to war, children and adolescents, who saw their fathers and older brothers leave for the front, became the object of educational, welfare and disciplinary strategies. Specifically, women had to take responsibility for families by taking on traditionally male jobs and took on a public identity for the first time; this was the first opportunity for equal rights and emancipation. Many of them left home of their own free will, others did so out of necessity, however they became visible to the whole of society, accepting to take on the heavier jobs left behind by the men who had left for the front, becoming factory workers, bus drivers, and occasional teachers, ready to help children and adults during their literacy process.
