The paper analyses the convergences between Max Weber and Antonio Gramsci in their reflections on industrial modernity, focusing on the working class and the power structures that shape workers’subjectivity. Weber highlights the difficulty workers face in conceptualizing their condition, as it is embedded in dynamics perceived as self-evident. Gramsci, through the concept of «common sense», shows how cultural hegemony reinforces thought patterns that sustain the social order. Comparing these two thinkers helps to understand how coercion and consent interact in social transformation processes, influencing daily life, culture, and the productive structure.

Abstract
The paper analyses the convergences between Max Weber and Antonio Gramsci in their reflections on industrial modernity, focusing on the working class and the power structures that shape workers’subjectivity. Weber highlights the difficulty workers face in conceptualizing their condition, as it is embedded in dynamics perceived as self-evident. Gramsci, through the concept of «common sense», shows how cultural hegemony reinforces thought patterns that sustain the social order. Comparing these two thinkers helps to understand how coercion and consent interact in social transformation processes, influencing daily life, culture, and the productive structure.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
